SST for children

"I want to play with others… but I don't know how."

For many children, relationships with peers can be more difficult than it might seem. Sometimes it is hard to join in play, handle conflict, understand other children's emotions or say what you really need.

Social Skills Training helps children develop, step by step, the skills to build relationships, communicate and manage emotions within a peer group.

At Równoważni MED we run intimate SST groups for children in Warsaw (Mokotów), combining social skills training with careful observation by specialists and regular feedback for parents.

Social Skills Training (SST) for children — Warsaw Mokotów

Is it normal for a child to often come home from school saying no one wants to play with them?

It is completely normal to ask yourself this question many times as a parent. Especially when you observe situations that concern you or leave your child feeling lost. Perhaps your child:

  • wants to play with others but does not know how to join in
  • often comes home from school saying no one wants to play with them
  • takes conflicts with peers very much to heart
  • reacts with anger or withdrawal in difficult social situations
  • does not understand the rules of cooperation in a group
  • has difficulty coping with losing or being rejected

For many children, social relationships are simply more challenging — not because they do not want to have friends, but because they are still learning how to navigate different social situations.

Social Skills Training helps children develop these skills step by step — in a safe, supportive peer group.

What children learn during SST workshops

During sessions we work with situations that children know well from everyday life — from nursery, school or playing with peers.

We teach, among other things, how to:

  • join in play or start a conversation

  • handle conflict or misunderstanding

  • recognise and express emotions

  • cooperate within a group

Through this, children gradually build greater confidence in social relationships.

What do SST sessions look like at Równoważni MED

The programme begins with an assessment consultation, during which we speak with parents about the child's difficulties, conduct an interview and gather the necessary information to match the child to the right group. The assessment consultation consists of a meeting with parents (60 min) + a conversation with the child (15 minutes).

The sessions themselves take place once a week and take the form of group exercises, games and social role-play scenarios. Through these, children can practise a variety of social situations — such as conversation, cooperation and conflict resolution.

Social Skills Training at Równoważni MED is run in intimate peer groups, so that each child can actively participate in sessions and receive genuine specialist support.

 The programme includes:

  • sessions once a week
  • sessions lasting 60–75 minutes
  • small groups of children
  • division into age groups
  • a written summary of the child's progress once a month
  • recommendations for parents to work on at home

As a result, as a parent you will know:

  • which skills your child is working on
  • what changes you can observe in your child's social relationships
  • how to support your child's development in everyday situations.

Before sessions begin, an assessment consultation takes place to match the child to the right group and identify their needs.

At Równoważni MED, parents know what their child is working on.

In many SST programmes, parents only know that their child is attending sessions.

At Równoważni MED we make sure that parents understand their child's development process. That is why throughout the programme we prepare written progress summaries and guidance for working at home. This allows parents to support their child not only during sessions, but also in everyday situations.
